Deputies say 28-year-old Cody James Arceneaux of Opelousas was arrested in connection with the death of his mother Vickie Granger.

Found by deputies curled up on the floor of the residence holding his hands in a bloody towel, Arceneaux allegedly told deputies that his mother had attempted to stab him and that he stabbed her.

A large kitchen knife and Granger’s body were found in the kitchen, according to the sheriff’s office. Granger was found to have sustained several stab wounds and lacerations. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arceneaux was transported to a local hospital for treatment for lacerations on his hands. Following his release, he was transported to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office where he was questioned.

During questioning, Arceneaux allegedly told deputies that he and his mother had been arguing and that he was holding a knife. According to deputies, during their argument, Granger grabbed the knife from Arceneaux unintentionally cutting him. Arceneaux allegedly told deputies that he then grabbed the knife and began stabbing his mother.

Arceneaux was arrested and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on a charge of second-degree murder. No bond has been set.
