A teenager has been arrested in connection with a hit and run involving two bicyclists in which one was killed.

Troopers say just before midnight on Friday, February 15, 2019, they began investigating a hit and run fatality crash on LA 741 near Lanclos Road in St. Landry Parish.

The crash took the life of 67-year-old Clifton Charles of Port Barre and injured a 17-year-old. 19-year-old Dustin Hollier of Arnaudville was arrested in that incident.

An investigation revealed that Charles was riding his bike with the 17-year-old southbound in the southbound lane near the right side of LA 741. At the same time, Hollier was traveling southbound on LA 741 in a 2008 Honda Accord.

According to Troopers, Hollier struck both bicyclists with his vehicle, then fled the scene but returned a short time later.

Clifton Charles sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office. The 17-year-old suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Hollier submitted a breath sample which, State Police say, indicated a BAC of 0.03g%. Hollier was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the charges of Underage Operating While Intoxicated and Felony Hit-and-Run Driving.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says that Hollier’s bond was set at $7,500 and he has since been released.

Further charges may be pending.

Standard toxicology tests from Clifton Charles were submitted for analysis to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

A photo of Hollier was not immediately available.
