Karen Roy, Ms. Wheelchair America 2019, will be this year’s keynote speaker. Roy, from Baton Rouge, received a spinal cord injury in 1987 after being shot in the back during an armed robbery at LSU. She was selected as keynote speaker because of her courage in the face of tragedy, according to the United Way.

Proceeds from today’s event will benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Tickets were $25. More information on the event can be found online at uwsle.org.
