The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance in identifying a person seen on video surveillance attacking an elderly man at a gas station in Opelousas.

Deputies say they received a call of an aggravated battery the morning of February 14 at Nuba Fast Food on Highway 182 in Opelousas.

The victim, police say, got out of his vehicle at Nuba Fast Foods to buy cigarettes Thursday morning when an unknown man, seen parked at the next pump, walked over to the victim and began to beat him with a tire rod.

Deputies describe the man as a white male around the ages of 25 to 30 with short brown hair, approximately 5’7″, 160lbs. He was wearing short gold pants. (The video appears to show the attacker is wearing red shorts and a blue shirt)

The victim was allegedly hit around thirty times, according to police and crawled under his truck to avoid being struck in the head.

The attacker then left the scene in what is believed to be an older model Toyota, brown/gold in color. Deputies say he headed west on Highway 167.

The victim could not get the license plate number off of the vehicle. The victim advised officers that he had never seen the man before.
