An arrest has been made in what was originally reported as a drive-by shooting in Opelousas.
Investigators have arrested 26-year-old Jamarcus Stelly of Opelousas.
Police say that after reviewing area surveillance video and interviewing witnesses investigators learned that an argument had occurred at a convenience store near Laurent and East Street. Police say in that argument, Stelly allegedly retrieved a weapon and fired a shot at the victim striking him in the leg.
The original indication that the shooting involved a vehicle was found to be inaccurate, according to police. The victim has since been treated and released from an area hospital.
Stelly will be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following charges:
- Attempted Second Degree Murder
- Felon in Possession of Firearm
- Illegal Use of Weapon or Dangerous Instrumentalities
