The Eunice Police Department says they have made an arrest in connection with Monday’s fatal shooting.

19-year-old Daricko Stevens was arrested on Tuesday morning following an investigation into the shooting death of 23-year-old Oshea Doffeny.

Doffney was shot and killed on Monday morning in the 1600 block of West Vine Avenue in Eunice. Police say they were initially told by witnesses that the incident was a drive-by shooting. Investigators were unable to locate any evidence that a drive-by shooting had occurred.

Police say that while interviewing witnesses at the hospital, Stevens told investigators that the shooting was a drive-by.

Investigators found that the injuries sustained by Doffeny were not consistent with a drive-by shooting. Police say that Doffney received a single gunshot wound to the chest which resulted in his death.

After further investigation, it was learned that Stevens allegedly fabricated the original story and that he shot Doffeny with a pistol while the two were sitting inside Doffeny’s vehicle. Police say the pistol went off striking Doffeny in the chest.

On the way to the hospital, investigators say Stevens allegedly attempted to destroy evidence and fabricate the drive-by story.

Stevens was arrested and booked on charges of Manslaughter and obstruction of justice.
