The superintendent of St. Landry Parish Schools says a Beau Chene High School student was arrested Friday after a gun was found on campus.
Superintendent Patrick Jenkins says that 17-year-old male student was arrested at Beau Chene High. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office is identifying the student as Shelton Celestine of Church Point. The arrest happened after a tip was given to administrators that Celestine allegedly had a gun on campus. Jenkins says the staff worked quickly and located the gun inside a locker.
Celestine was taken into custody by deputies without incident. He was booked into the parish jail with carrying a firearm on school property.
Jenkins says that the school board is looking into discipline for the student but could not give any details.
No students or staff were harmed during this incident.
Parents were informed via the parish’s message system.
