The City of Opelousas is now under a city-wide boil advisory following a break in a line Monday morning.

The advisory is issued for everyone who are may be affected by the water main being temporarily shut off or may be experiencing low pressure.

The city says that once repairs to the water main are complete, water samples will be sent to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (LDHH) for testing.

The advisory will be lifted once the results of that testing come through.

Early this morning, the City of Opelousas was asking residents to cut back on water usage for several hours after a line break.

Officials reported that a 12″ main ductile line at the City Water Plant split around 8:00 am spraying water from the pipe break.

City workers are currently working to repair the break.

Residents were asked to cutback or refrain from using water to conserve water and reduce pressure on the city water system.

Motorists were advised to avoid traveling down Guidry Street while repairs were underway.
