Community members in Opelousas are making sure children stay warm this winter.

People involved in the Warm Hands, Warm Heads, Warm Hearts project donated hats and gloves to the nearly 300 students at North Elementary School.

Shawana Johnson started the project after seeing students waiting for their bus without extra clothing.

“We love our schools, we love our community and the kids are our community and our people so it’s important that every morning they have their best foot forward to come to school and to learn,” said Shawana Johnson, Project Founder. “We just want to meet their basic needs. And it’s a blessing today because just to provide a small bit of comfort so that when they get here, they’re warm. They’re ready to start their day.”
