Hope for Opelousas held a ribbon cutting and open house announcing the expansion of its programs.
Monday, Hope for Opelousas celebrated the expansion of its mentoring and tutoring programs for students in first through third grade.
For the last ten years, the group has tutored and mentored fourth through twelfth graders.
They say by reaching children earlier, they can help them be more successful in school.
“It’s really crucial for a child to be able to read by the third grade. It totally changes the outcome for their potential later in life. For us, it means we’re going to have more success, so that makes us happy,” said Loren Carriere Executive Director, Hope For Opelousas.
