UPDATE: UL officials tell us that UL Police Major Larry Zerangue Jr. is on administrative leave.

ORIGINAL STORY, POSTED DECEMBER 26: St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a UL police officer and booked him with domestic abuse.

Larry Zerangue Jr., listed as a Major on the UL Police Department’s website, was arrested Christmas Day and booked with domestic abuse battery by strangulation, records show.

UL officials would not provide the current employment status of Zerangue, 48.

“The university does not comment on personnel matters,” a spokesman said.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said his deputies were called to an Opelousas home at about 9:40 p.m. Christmas Day.

They interviewed Zerangue, his wife and a teenager who was in the home during the incident, the sheriff said. Deputies then arrested Zerangue and booked him, the sheriff said.

The judge decided against a Gwen’s law hearing, and set bond at $2,500. Zerangue has posted that bond and been released, the sheriff said.

No one was transported to the hospital following the incident, the sheriff said.
