SOWELA Technical Community College announced Friday the cancellation of classes and events for one week, from Monday, March 16 - Friday, March 20, at all locations due to concerns over COVID-19.
Students will resume classes on Monday, March 23, through an online instructional method for courses that can be conducted in such format. Classes requiring hands-on instruction will resume in a face-to-face format, ensuring that CDC recommendations for sanitation and social distancing are upheld. Students can visit Canvas for more information or contact their instructor directly with questions.
Officials say that, while some colleges have moved to a fully online format for classes, this type of transition is not ideal for hands-on education at SOWELA.
All SOWELA facilities will undergo extensive sanitation for disease prevention measures.
During the next week, faculty and staff will have the following schedule:
· Monday, March 16 - SOWELA offices closed with no faculty or staff on campus.
· Tuesday, March 17 - Essential personnel only on campus.
· Wednesday, March 18 - All faculty and staff return with professional development available to faculty transitioning face-to-face classes into the on-line format.
Administrators will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis.
