Scammers posing as deputies in Rapides Parish

Scammers are posing as Rapides Parish deputies, and citizens should not be fooled, a spokesman said.

Several citizens called the Sheriff's Office this week to say they had been contacted by a scammer who claimed there were active warrants for their arrest.

The caller would often identify their self using the name of a known Sheriff’s Office Deputy and the potential victim’s caller id reflected a telephone number associated with the department.

The real Sheriff's Office says: Please know law enforcement will NEVER contact you by phone and threaten arrest in lieu of payment. Nor will they inquire about personal information such as your date of birth, social security number, home address, etc. PLEASE REMEMBER, if ANYONE calls you soliciting money alleging you have warrants for your arrest DO NOT send them any money and contact local law enforcement.
