COVID cases are spiking all over the country, and Acadiana is no different.
Figures from the state Department of Health show that the percent of COVID tests that have been positive has been increasing in all parishes. The state's COVID dashboard updates percent positivity rates every Wednesday, offering figures for two weeks at a time.
The CDC and most epidemiologists say a positivity rate of 10 percent or less is what regions should aim for; CDC guidance allows the move from Phase II restrictions to Phase III restrictions after a region (state) has reported percent positivity rates lower than 10 percent for two consecutive weeks.
In Louisiana, positivity rates above 10 percent for two consecutive weeks means a parish's bars have to close to on-site consumption.
"Should any parish that opts in then subsequently exceed 10 percent positivity for two consecutive weeks, bars in that parish shall then be closed for on-premises consumption, unless and until the percent positivity decreases to 5 percent or less for two consecutive weeks," the governor's order states.
The only parish in that boat today is Evangeline.
