OBERLIN, La. — The Oaklin Springs Cemetery Board held an emergency meeting Thursday where it decided to remove language that read "The Right of Burial of the Remains of White Human Beings" from its burial contracts.
This comes after an Allen Parish family said they were outraged after being denied a burial plot for a family member because of their skin color.
KATC spoke with the board president who said that the contract was written in the 1950s when the cemetery was first opened and vowed that changes would be made.
The updated contract now reads, "the right of burial of the remains of human beings."
