News Literacy Project: Project founder explains importance of news literacy

KATC and our owner, Scripps Broadcasting, want to help you the viewers understand the importance of verifying information.

The creator of this initiative, Alan Miller, explains why this is such an important topic, especially in the years to come.

"We live in what should be a digital golden age, with more verified and credible information available to us than ever before. But we're being overwhelmed by a tsunami of misinformation that inflames us and divides us. So we feel we should give the next generation the tools to navigate this challenging information landscape in a way that unites us around verified, agreed upon facts."

This week, January 27-31, KATC and our parent company, E.W. Scripps, are partnering for the News Literacy Project. Throughout the week, KATC and other Scripps stations will produce and air stories related to the topic of news literacy.

Monday, KATC partnered with future journalists at St. Thomas More to look into the business of king cake making in Lafayette.
