A new musical experience is coming to downtown Lafayette.

Event organizers of the inaugural Downtown Rising are hoping big names will help make the it the next big thing.

Happening in Parc International Thursday night, the concert will welcome the nationally renowned band The Revivalists, Sweet Crude, a New Orleans band focusing on music in English and Louisiana French, and Lafayette’s DJ Digital.

“We have seen so much progress happening in the last five years, and we felt that it was fun to just do a little celebrating. So, that’s kind of how Downtown Rising came together. It’s a combination of a lot of organizations in Lafayette coming together,” said event coordinator Gus Rezende.

Thousands are expected to attend, which is something downtown business owners say they’re excited about.

“It’s always a great thing to have people from outside the state or from the surrounding areas that don’t necessarily travel downtown on a consistent basis. If we get them in here, our doors are more than open for them,” said Rock’n’Bowl manager Kevin Tassin.

Unlike Festival International and Downtown Alive, Downtown Rising is a ticketed event with proceeds helping those in the music industry.

“The mission is to support local, aging, retired, and active musicians. So, we look forward to making a donation right after the festival,” said Rezende. “We hope it’s a great turnout.”

Event organizers say Downtown Rising will be an annual event with a different nonprofit being helped each year.

Tickets are still available. They are $27 at socialentertainment.net until noon tomorrow. After that, they’ll be $32 at the gate, starting at 4 p.m. The show starts at 5 p.m.
