Lafayette deputies take part in Special Olympics torch run

On Thursday morning, deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office gathered for the 2019 Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Deputies ran along with Special Olympics Athletes while carrying the “Flame of Hope” which will travel throughout the state to usher in the Summer Games which start on Friday, May 24 at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.

The games will continue until Sunday, May 26.

The flame represents the courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe, according to the Special Olympics

The organization says that more than 97,000 officers participate in the run each year.

Today’s run began at 9:00 am at the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office located on W. Main Street in Lafayette.
