The Lafayette Fire Department graduated nine recruits from its Louis F. Babin Institute of Fire Training on Friday, May 17.
The recruits went through seventeen weeks of classroom instructions, hands-on training, and physical fitness in order to reach the rank of firefighter.
Training this year was different from the past years, according to the department, recruits learned the principles of fire behavior, fire chemistry, structural design, water application, firefighting tactics, search and rescue, EMS, hose lays, and many other aspects of today’s first responder practices.
The department says the new recruits will decrease the number of vacancies at the department to four.
