Poirier won the title last month. The Northside High graduate says he hopes to be an inspiration for others.
“I want to give back to Louisiana and show these guys, these young kids, how to be a world champion, Poirier said.
After the ceremony Wednesday, a victory celebration and welcome home party was held. Mr. Poirier signed autographs for the public and took photos with fans.
Dean-O’s donated 15% of sales from that evening to The Good Fight Foundation, a registered 501c nonprofit which Mr. Poirier and his wife Jolie established to support local causes.
