The Lafayette Parish School Board has chosen Irma Trosclair as the new interim superintendent.

The school board met Wednesday in special session to interview two candidates for interim superintendent. Trosclair was chosen by a unanimous vote of 9-0 following the interviews.

Nine people applied for the job; only two remain and both are current LPSS employees.

Bart Thibodeaux who is currently the board’s director of special education and Irma Trosclair who is currently assistant superintendent for the district were the two candidates.

Trosclair has been an educator for 35 years in public schools in Lafayette, Acadia, St. Landry, Allen and Jeff Davis parishes. She holds degrees from LSU and McNeese in elementary education and administration and supervision.

During her career, she has worked as an assistant superintendent, administrator, principal and teacher. In her cover letter, she says that she has always been committed to student achievement and believes that all students deserve a high-quality educational experience.
