Lafayette Regional Airport is dedicating more than $4 million to build a new quick turnaround facility.

The facility is expected to make life easier for both customers and employees.

The airport commission believes the quick turnaround facility is all about convenience. Rental companies will now have a central hub.

“It gives them an opportunity to refuel, clean and stage the vehicle and jockey the vehicle back up to the terminal,” said Steven Picou, Lafayette Regional Airport Executive Director.

Picou said some of the rental companies have to take cars off airport property to maintain them. That creates an inconvenience for passengers waiting on their cars to be ready.

“If there is any type of traffic issue from where they jockey the car to the airport, this can create an inconvenience,” said Picou. “This will be a direct route into the ready return lot adjacent to the new terminal.”

Picou said this facility is a standard at most airports across the country.

“It’s just a higher level of customer service, bringing the airport into current standards and above and beyond,” said Picou.

The project is expected to be complete in the next 300 days.
