Ground broken on new LPD training center

Today, the Lafayette Police Department had a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Defensive Tactics Training Center.

The center, which will include a classroom, simulation room and tactical training area, is located at 1818 Moss St. next door to the Precinct 4 building.

It’s currently a metal building which has been redesigned by Architects Beazley Moliere. RS Bernard and Associates will handle construction of the project. The project will cost a little more than $500,000, which includes demolition and reconstruction of the building, said Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux.

“The plans are great. We were able to stay within a good reasonable budget, which was a positive for the taxpayers. But the resources and service that is going to be developed from this is certainly worth the cost,” Boudreaux said.
