LAFAYETTE, La. -Lafayette High School principal Dr. Donald Thorton, Jr. is leaving, but not too far.

He will serve as principal at Westminster Christian Academy’s brand new upper school.

Thornton will begin his term on June 3, 2019. He has 17 years of experience in education — his most recent years as principal of Lafayette High School.

“I am excited to be a part of the Westminster family,” said Dr. Thornton. “I believe my passion and experience in education and ministry will contribute to the successful establishment of the new upper school campus in Lafayette.”

Thornton’s university training began with a Bachelors of Science in Social Studies Education from Northwestern State. That foundation ultimately led to both his Masters in Education and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has also sought to increase his personal Bible training through the Auxano Bible Institute, completing a two-year certification program.

When asked about welcoming Donald Thornton Jr. to Westminster, Head of School Scott Davis remarked, “We are thrilled to have a person of the credential, experience, passion, and Christian commitment as Dr. Thornton. He brings a love for education, a love for students, and a love for Christ to Westminster. His expertise will give an immediate jump-start to our new upper school in Lafayette.”
