Elementary students in Lafayette are sharing with their parents what they’ve learned in music class.

Kindergartners through fourth graders have been learning about music all week long, and it culminated in tonight’s Family Folk Dance Night in L. J. Alleman Middle School’s gym.

The students learned different lines dances and practiced them for about 8 weeks before doing them with their parents.

The event was put on by Woodvale Elementary’s music teacher Jessica Wiltz.

“I think it’s important for community. I also think it’s important to advocate for music education. Music education is very near and dear to my heart, and this is an opportunity for the community to see what goes on in a music class. We dance; we sing; we have fun,” said Wiltz.
