Fire chiefs from across the country are in Lafayette to learn more about leadership.
Representatives with the International Association of Fire Chiefs discussed administrative skills needed to lead a department.
They learned more about personnel issues, budget issues, dealing with service demands and handling the media.
“There’s a variety of information that the public has the right to know,” said Dan Jones, International Associations of Fire Chiefs “And the best way to channel that information is through the local news media so one of the things we try to teach chief officers to do is how to do this, how to do an interview, how to interact with the news media.”
