Acadiana has a brand new Grammy winner.

Lafayette native Lauren Daigle took home two awards on Sunday night: one award for Best Contemporary Christian Album and another for Best Contemporary Christian Song. Her first vocal coach, Nancy Tabb Marcantel, says she could not be more proud.

“I said we are going to learn all the basics, all the foundation. I don’t want her to learn to sing for just one song or one year. I want her to be able to sing for the rest of her life. That’s the kind of thing that I teach,” Marcantel said.

Marcantel said she watched Daigle grow from a young girl with stage fright to a fearless young lady trying out for American Idol.

“Well, she has a deep-seated faith, and she believes God directs her path… always has. She’s always believed that. I believe she seeks the Lord’s will for her life,” Marcantel said.

That led Daigle to win Dove Awards and now two Grammys. Marcantel says she always knew Daigle had it in her.

“She’s funny. She’s sincere. She’s down to earth. She loves her family; she loves God. That’s Lauren. She’s the real deal,” Marcantel said.
