Lafayette native and mixed martial arts champion Daniel Cormier has claimed the number three spot on ESPN’s list of the most dominant athletes of 2018.

Cormier has had quite an eventual 2018, claiming and defending multiple titles throughout the year. Cormier became the second fighter in UFC history to hold two championship belts simultaneously after a win over Stipe Miocic in July.

On his Facebook fan page, Cormier says that he is honored to be recognized amongst the other amazing athletes.

“I could not have ever imagined a year like this. Now all I need is that nice shiny ESPY for fighter of the year and I’m set.”

Cormier ends his post with a thank you to all of his supporters.

“Thank you all for your support this year and throughout my entire career. It means more to me than you know . We did this together.”

Gracing the list this year in the top stop was U.S. Olympic Gold Medaling Gymnast and four-time world champion, Simone Biles. Other familiar faces making the list include Saints Quarterback Drew Breese at number 15, Lebron James of the Los Angeles Lakers at number 13, along with a host of others include snowboarder Chloe Kim and swimmer Katie Ledecky.
