LAFAYETTE- Former city councilman and UL professor Al Simon has died.
Simon, who was living in Jackson, Mississippi, was 91.
Simon taught and coached in the Lafayette Parish School System before taking a position as a professor in then USL kinesiology department. During his time at teaching at the university, Simon branched out into politics. He held a seat on the Lafayette City Council from 1976 until 1992.
Simon’s daughter, current Lafayette City-Parish Council member Nanette Cook, tells KATC the family will hold a celebration of life on December 27 at the Petroleum Club.
