Head of Bush’s church also served in Lafayette

The Rev. Dr. Russell Levenson, Jr., who heads the church attended by President George H.W. Bush and eulogized the president at his funeral this morning, also has served in Lafayette.

Levenson, who heads St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, also served as rector of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette from 1997 until 2002. While serving in Louisiana, he also served on the Diocese’s Executive Committee for three years and as a member of the Commission on Communication.

Levenson is a native of Birmingham, Alabama.

He has served in churches in Birmingham and Pensacola. He took over the Houston church in 2007.
