There’s a new Bird in town, and you may see this one flying by next to your car. The black scooters with LED lighting are all around the city. They are left in various places so when one person is done, another can take over.

“Well, I was on campus, and I saw a few of these, so instead of walking back, I took one of these, and it took me about two minutes to get back. ‘Had you heard about these before?’ No, I just saw them today,” Spencer Noel explained.

Just like their feathered namesakes, the birds are everywhere. As the old saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

“It died, so I looked it up on my app, and there was another one just a couple of blocks away,” Noel said.

Lafayette Consolidated Government says they were not contacted by the vendor of the scooters prior to their appearance, and the matter is being looked into.

“We are looking into it to see how we are going to interact with the scooter company as a business operating within our community. Really what we are promoting right now and what we want everyone to know is safety,” Cydra Wingerter, a spokesperson for LCG said.

While the scooters showed up overnight, the company says they hope to work closely with city officials and develop a plan that works for everyone. The statement goes on to say the company will meet with city officials next week.
