LAFAYETTE, La. – Lafayette’s citizens were amazed Saturday night when Saturday Night Live showed a sketch set at AOC Community Media in Lafayette. Silverbacks Improv Theatre began working on a “clapback” early Sunday morning. The filmed sketch completed by Silverbacks Improv, called “Liberal Lagniappe,” premiered today on AOC.

The group hopes that the video will eventually reach Seth Meyers, who was featured in the sketch, as well as the producers, writers, and actors of SNL.

The concept for the Silverbacks sketch directly relates to the SNL Sketch – which was called “Bayou Benny’s Liberal Lagniappe.” In the SNL piece, a left-leaning public access show on AOC features a host (Bayou Benny) and an array of characters such as an alligator and a pepper in sunglasses. The Silverbacks spin in their sketch is that Liberal Lagniappe is a real Weekend Update style show on AOC, and the hosts are happy for the shoutout from SNL, though they jovially poke fun at SNL’s portrayal of life in  South Louisiana. The sketch’s final moments invite SNL and Seth Meyers to Lafayette to see “what we are actually all about.”
