Trick And Treat: You can hire a clown to scare your friends, deliver sweets

This Halloween, a real life trick AND treat is now available in Lafayette.

You’ve heard of rent-a-car, but what about rent-a-clown. No, not a clown car, the actual clown.

It’s creepy, confusing and kind of hilarious.

For just $35, you can hire Snickers the Clown to sneak up on your friends and scare the daylight out of them.

“At first it’s initial shock and then depending on how afraid of clowns they actually are, that’s when they either run or they sit there in fear and just stare at you and they’re not really sure what to do,” laughed Kellie Dubose, who is the owner of Kellie’s Characters and also the person under the mask.

The Nortshore-based character company started using Snickers to spook people across South Louisiana last year, but now after large demands, she’s made her deliveries in Lafayette too.

“There was one time where I ran after a lady all the way to her car, all the way through the parking lot. I got a big tip for that one,” she laughed.

But it’s not all screams. Snickers comes bearing sweet treats as well.

“It all depends on the person’s reaction. Obviously if I go in somewhere and they get up and run, I’m going to chase them until somebody tells me to stop,” she said. “If they’re just not going to do anything, I’ll have to hand them the cookies, honk the horn one more time and then I always cackle, run and run away.”

Dubose even takes precautions for when people don’t realize she’s just clowning around.

“I’ve seen a lot of comments online about ‘this clown is going to get shot’ or ‘this is just not safe.’ Every time somebody books, I text them a list of questions they have to answer. I never ever go to somebody’s house when they’re alone. I always make sure it’s in a place where everybody knows I’m coming, except for that one person I’m going to prank. But I’ve never had anyone hit me and I’ve never had any complaints,” Dubose said.

But, if that’s too terrifying for your kids, you can also hire a Halloween Mickey Mouse and other characters.
