Lafayette Parish teachers could be getting an extra check at the end of October, equaling $1,437.70.

The money would come from the school board’s half-cent sales tax fund reserved for teacher raises.

The school board will hear the recommendation for the “14th check” at their next meeting. The total amount of the excess sales tax collection is $4,101,213.

In order for a teacher to be eligible for the payment, they must be full-time and actively employed on the date of the declaration.

If approved by the Board, the distribution of this “14th check” will be included as a separate payroll check and will be distributed to eligible employees along with their regular October 2018 payroll checks.
