Lafayette Parish teachers and students are learning how to incorporate the outdoors into their classroom with a help from the LSU Ag Center.

Wednesday, Lafayette master gardeners and ag center 4-H members went to Charles Burke Elementary to teach gardening basics and how to choose plants among other skills.  Through the school gardens, LSU Ag says that children can learn science, math, English, history, environmental studies and art.

Organizers say the biggest lessons are about planning, patience, and teamwork.

The LSU Ag Center is working with nine Lafayette Parish Schools that are incorporating the school garden concept into their campus curriculum.

The schools are Alice Boucher Elementary, Charles Burke Elementary, Ernest Gallet Elementary, Judice Middle School, G. T. Lindon Elementary, L. Leo Judice Elementary, Philadelphia Christian Academy, Ridge Elementary and St. Thomas More Catholic High School.
