United Blood Services announced today that it has merged with other blood center brands across the nation under the name Vitalant.

Ten donation centers, including United Blood Services, have made the change and will now be known under the Vitalant name. Those donation centers include Blood Centers of the Pacific, BloodSource, Bonfils Blood Center,
Central Blood Bank, Community Blood Services, Inland Northwest Blood Center,
Lifeblood, LifeShare, LifeSource and United Blood Services.

Vitalant, which currently serves communities in 40 states, says that it is one of the oldest and largest comprehensive transfusion medicine organizations in the country.

United Blood Services has served Louisiana for more than 50 years, and Vitalant Director of Operations Danny Garrick says that that commitment will remain.

Vitalant, pronounced “Vye-TAL-ent,” says they currently work with nearly 1,000 hospitals and health care centers in the U.S. by offering transfusions, medical counseling, quality guidance, education and research.

The company says all staff in their community donation centers will remain and that services and donations will not change. The three UBS donation centers in Louisiana will now function as Vitalant centers.

For more information on blood drives and donations visit the donation center at 1503 Bertrand Drive in Lafayette or online at vitalant.org.
