An actor who’s deaf is using his experience to encourage others to follow their dreams in the acting industry.

Acadiana native Josh Castille hosted his artivism workshop at the Acadiana Center for the Arts today. Artivism is a portmanteau word combining art and activism.

Castille says storytelling has allowed him to use his voice to help those with disabilities.

Louisiana has one of the highest disabled communities – deaf, blind people here in America – so to underutilize, we have resources that are not being used. And, we feel like this presentation is going to really help us and how we can take advantage of their skills and talents and change their perspective of other people,” said Castille.
