Three commemorative events are planned for Tuesday, September 11.

The Lafayette Fire Department will hold a ceremony to remember the attacks’ 17th Anniversary at Lafayette’s 9-11 Memorial.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at Parc Sans Souci in Downtown Lafayette.

Lafayette Fire Department and first responders throughout the parish will pay respect to the fallen heroes and victims in the 9/11 attack 17 years ago.

On September 11, 2001, 414 first responders – police, fire, ambulance personnel – died along with 2,563 civilians.

The Lafayette 9/11 monument was erected in 2002. Memorial wreaths will be laid at the monument in honor of the lives lost. A moment of silence will be observed. Words of reflection and encouragement will be delivered. The general public is invited to attend, a spokesman said.

In Eunice, there will be a ceremony at Circle Park.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is hosted by the Life Chapter 243, VFW POST 8971, American Legion Post129 and DAV Chapter 19.

The public is invited to attend.

And in New Iberia, there will be a Patriot Day Celebration.

The annual event begins at 6 p.m. in the Steamboat Pavilion at Bouligny Plaza in Downtown New Iberia.

The event is a celebration of our armed forces for keeping us safe at home and abroad with a flag ceremony and patriotic music, organizers say.
