Lafayette Parish School System officials say that all school lockdowns have been lifted after a search for a suspect near the Evangeline Thruway and Pinhook Road.

Lafayette Police say that the Lafayette City Marshal’s Office was in the area searching for a person who allegedly fled on foot after a vehicle pursuit and entered a nearby neighborhood. That person according to LPSS has been apprehended which prompted the lockdowns to be lifted.

Lafayette’s Marshal’s Office provided more information on that arrest Friday. Read more here

LeRosen, EJ Sam, and Paul Breaux schools went on lockdown for a short period of time.  Paul Breaux Middle School lifted their lockdown at 2:42 pm. EJ Sam and LeRosen are also no longer on lockdown.

The suspect was believed to be in the neighborhood near LeRosen Elementary but was isolated from the campus. Officials who spoke with KATC said that law enforcement would be escorting students to the buses for dismissal out of precaution.

Edward J Sam Accelerated School sent out this alert to parents during the lockdown:

“Hello Parents, we are on soft lockdown for something going on in the area. We are safe and fine and police will let us know when we can lift the lockdown. We will update you with any new info”

The scene is now clear.
