An Opelousas man wanted in connection with a shooting incident in Avoyelles Parish has turned himself in to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say that 21-year-old Justin Molbert surrendered on Tuesday, August 21 at around 4:00 pm. He was arrested on two outstanding warrants issued by the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office for two counts of Attempted Second-degree murder.

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a press release on Tuesday that Molbert allegedly shot at two victims on Monday afternoon in the Dupont community. A male victim was shot in the leg and taken to Rapides Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Molbert was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on those charges and other charges out of Lafayette Parish for theft, criminal trespassing, and disturbing the peace.

Molbert will be transferred to Avoyelles Parish to face the attempted second-degree murder charges at a later date.
