The Lafayette Fire Department has determined that a fire that occurred last night at a residence on Rena Drive in Lafayette was intentionally set. One person has been arrested.

Firefighters say the fire began under the carport of the home and that investigators believe a domestic incident at the residence earlier that evening may have been a factor in the fire being intentionally set.

The fire also damaged a transformer which caused a power outage in neighboring homes around Rena and Ayershire Drive. The home received major fire damage. No one was home at the time of the fire.

One person, Dana St. Amant, was arrested for allegedly setting the fire and was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges of simple arson. Investigators say that St. Amant is the girlfriend of the home’s occupant. A bond has not been set.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call the Lafayette Fire Department at 337-291-8716.
