Storms caused some damage in Jennings

This morning’s storms caused some damage in Jennings.

The lightning struck the tree on Sherman and Fourth Street, knocking it over as well as the surrounding power lines.

Luckily no one was injured and the tree didn’t hit any homes or fall on any cars.

One neighbor said she heard the whole thing and is just happy it wasn’t worse.

“It was just lightning and thundering really bad and it was pouring,” said Kelly Atkins, who was at home when the tree in front of her house completely uprooted and fell around 8 in the morning.

“I was afraid it was falling on my house so I ran to the door to make sure it wasn’t,” she said.

Entergy crews spent hours trying to fix the downed power lines, which were hot with electricity for most of the morning.

Some residents like Atkins were left without power.

“I just heard a bunch of crackling like when from the electricity and then a bunch of surging from the electricity from the tree falling,” she recalled.

Although it was a scary experience, Atkins says she’s grateful no one was hurt.

“I’m just thankful, God was watching over us and it didn’t fall on anyone’s house. It just fell on the street and everybody’s okay over here,” she said.

No other storm damage was reported in the area.
