Alleged shoplifters busted in parking lot, selling loot

Four people were arrested Friday by Jennings Police after they allegedly stole liquor from a nearby Walgreens then tried to sell it in the parking lot of a Walmart.

The stores are about a block apart, Chief Danny Semmes says, and the Walmart parking lot gets a lot of traffic, he said.

The four allegedly shoplifted more than $1,000 worth of alcohol and personal care products from the Walgreens, then went to the Walmart  – in broad daylight – to try to sell the loot to customers there, he said.

Police were called by the Walgreen’s staff after the thefts, and while they were interviewing the drug store employees they got a tip that some people were at Walmart, trying to sell stuff in the parking lot.

All four were taken into custody and booked into the parish jail:

  • Marcus D. Davis, 40, of Jennings, booked with theft.
  • Disha D. Hayes, 25, of Lake Charles, booked with misrepresentation during booking, resisting an officer, theft and flight from an officer.
  • India M. Morman, 33, of Westlake, booked with theft, simple escape, taking contraband into a penal facility, possession of drug paraphernalia, misrepresentation during booking and resisting an officer. Morman allegedly tried to run away after officers had placed her in handcuffs, the chief said.
  • Robert C. McCarver, 44, of Lake Charles, booked with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
