When construction started, it was hoped that by now the Jeff Davis Parish’s new jail would be open and occupied.
The original opening date was August 2018, but that was delayed. Then it was hoped that the facility would be complete by March 2019. But as of today, contractors still are working on the facility, and it looks like the earliest possible opening day will be in May, officials say.
The $10 million facility is located on an 18-acre site west of Jennings. It will triple the number of inmates the sheriff’s office currently houses.
