Louisiana State Police have arrested a Jennings man after a Saturday afternoon crash.
Brandon Kade Griffith, 39, was booked with 3rd Offense DWI, driving left of center, no seat belt, possession of Schedule I narcotics (mushrooms and heroin/2 counts), possession of Schedule II narcotics (Xanax), possession of Schedule IV narcotics (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, vehicular negligent injury (3 counts), and first degree vehicular negligent injury.
The accident happened at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday on La. 102 north of Jennings, an LSP Troop D spokesman said.
They found that Griffith was driving a pick-up north on the highway when he allegedly crossed the center line and collided with a southbound Tahoe head-on, the spokesman said. The Tahoe ran off the road and overturned. A third vehicle, a Buick Encore traveling behind the Tahoe, was hit by debris from the first crash, the spokesman said.
Griffith sustained minor injures. One person in the Tahoe was airlifted to a Lafayette hospital with serious injuries; the remaining people inside sustained minor injuries. The people in the Buick weren’t injured, the spokesman said.
Troopers suspect that alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in the crash. Griffith was arrested and transported to a hospital, where he refused to provide a blood sample, the spokesman said. A “no refusal” warrant was obtained and blood was drawn from Griffith. The toxicology samples obtained will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation, the spokesman said.
LSP will continue to arrest any motorist found to be operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. To report impaired drivers, motorists are urged to dial *LSP (*577) or contact their local law enforcement agency.
