State fire marshals arrested a Jennings woman for allegedly setting her rental house on fire while her sister was inside.

The fire started after 35-year-old Jessica Landry got into a fight with her boyfriend, according to a spokesperson with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Jennings firefighters responded to the fire on N Cutting Avenue, near 4th Street, Friday morning.

Fire investigators say the fire started in a bedroom of the house she and her sister were renting from a relative.

The fire chief called the State Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate after receiving an anonymous tip the fire was suspicious.

Witness statements indicated Landry was fighting with her boyfriend and tried to set the house on fire as she was kicking him out.

After being questioned and allegedly providing conflicting stories of the night’s timeline, Landry was arrested on one count of aggravated arson.

While being booked into jail, Landry confessed to investigators she lit a blanket on fire that was covering a door to a bedroom to get her boyfriend to leave the house, the spokesperson says.

Landry received minor burns while she was trying to put the fire out, according to the release.
