The Iberia Parish finance committee is officially proposing to close two schools in New Iberia.
Superintendent Carey Laviolette believes the closures are a necessity.
“We’re in a very severe budget crisis so two recommendations that were made tonight were to merge Jeanerette Elementary with St Charles Elementry school in the town of Jeanerette and also to move the students and teachers from North Street Elementary to Park and Daspit Elementry School,” Laviolette said.
The final vote on those possible closures will be held on Wednesday.
