The City of Jeanerette will be under new leadership in July.
Carol Bourgeois was elected on Saturday, and he says he is already in transition mode.
Bourgeois says he will leave his headquarters open and operating until he transitions into city hall.
“As the new leader of the City of Jeanerette, I will involve the citizens by way of a community advisory council. This would comprise as an advisory council of several individuals, so that we can find the solutions to our problems,” Bourgeois said.
With 55% of the vote, Bourgeois won outright in a field of three; that included incumbent Aprill Foulcard.
“It’s going to take more than just the mayor that’s elected. It’s going to take everyone in the city to come together, putting their ideas together, working together, and we will get this done,” Brenda Batiste said.
The mayor-elect inherits the city under the state takeover. He’s looking forward to working with the fiscal administrator.
“We will know exactly where we are, fiscally speaking, and there won’t be any fiscal instability. I feel like the templates, guidelines, and rules are in place, and if we just do those things that are required… get the reports in and make sure we have the proper oversight,” Bourgeois said.
