Teachers are demanding better state funding for public education.

The Iberia Association of Educators held its  Red for Ed walk at New Iberia City Park. A group of teachers, students and staff all in red, marched through the park carrying signs in support of education.

Organizers say that they want schools to be fully funded and to have teachers, students and support staff happy.

They’re urging lawmakers to boost spending on public education during the upcoming session. They hope to show that voters want more for their schools

“Everyone in Iberia Parish believes in their community and wants it better. They realize that public education is the foundation, and the children are our future,” Wanda Milliman, President of the Iberia Association of Educators said.

The group says the next step is to get more people into hearings, sending more letters to legislatures and show that people care.

“My ultimate goal is to make sure that every child has a neighborhood public school that is their choice. That is a school they want to go to,” Milliman said.
