NEW IBERIA–Two people and a dog are safe tonight after being rescued by the Coast Guard in Vermilion Bay.

According to the Coast Guard, officials received a report Monday morning of the boaters not returning after leaving on Sunday for a fishing trip between Vermilion Bay and Southwest Pass. A Coast Guard helicopter located the boaters and the dog in a marsh area just west of Marsh Island around 4:30 p.m. Monday. They and the dog were taken to Acadiana Regional Airport in good health.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted with the search.
